Port Everglades

    Cruises from Fort Lauderdale

Port Everglades in Fort Lauderdale is the second-busiest cruise port in the world after Miami, and it's where Princess, Holland America, Celebrity, and Cunard concentrate their longer luxury itineraries.

It's also one of the easiest cruise ports in the country to fly into. Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood Airport (FLL) is 5-10 minutes from the terminals.

    Best itineraries from Fort Lauderdale

Port Everglades is the U.S. starting point for many of the most interesting itineraries available.

    • 7-night Eastern Caribbean (San Juan, St. Thomas, St. Maarten)
    • 10-14 night Southern Caribbean and Panama Canal
    • 15+ night transatlantic crossings to Europe (spring and fall)
    • Holland America's longer Caribbean and Panama Canal voyages
    • Princess Hawaii and Mexican Riviera (occasional repositioning)

    Why Fort Lauderdale is underrated

It's the easiest cruise port to fly into in North America. FLL airport is literally next door, you can land at 10am and be on the ship by 11:30. That alone saves a hotel night for many cruisers.

My service is always free. Cruise lines pay me directly, so the price you see on the cruise line's site already includes my commission. Book direct and that money just stays with them.

    Frequently asked questions

Port Everglades is 5-10 minutes from FLL airport. It's the closest major cruise port to a major airport in the country. Taxi is around $15-20; rideshare is similar.

Sometimes. Many cruisers fly into FLL and stay in Miami the night before. Drive time between PortMiami and Port Everglades is 30-45 minutes, but Florida traffic on cruise day can stretch that.

PortMiami has the newest, biggest ships (Icon, Utopia, Virgin). Port Everglades has more premium and longer-itinerary ships (Princess, Holland America, Celebrity). For a first cruise, Miami is more dramatic; for a transatlantic or 14-day Caribbean, Fort Lauderdale wins.

$15-20/day at the port garages, paid on arrival. Off-site lots with shuttle service start at $8-10/day and are popular for longer sailings.

If you have the time, yes. A 14-15 night repositioning from Fort Lauderdale to Barcelona or Rome in April-May or October-November is one of the best per-night values in cruising.
